1973 Mercury Monterey wagon vs Ford Country Squire (luxury, buying, Chrysler)

would someone who bought a Mercury Monterey wagon in 1973 actually be paying more $$ and getting less luxury decor than buying the same years Ford Country Squire wagon? I ask because the Monterey, like the Chrysler Newport, was not particularly luxurious and the Country Squire was like the equiv. of an LTD wagon
