Some still think that HP numbers are the most important factor out there...
Doesn't the Porsche 911 Turbo produce "only" 560 hp? Likewise, the GT-R produces a "mere" 545 hp?
Yet they both launch to 60 in well under 3 seconds.
ZR-1 has 638 hp and has slower times than both.
Yes because it has nothing to do with both those vehicles being equipped with launch control and/or AWD
Even the 2015 Mustang GT has launch control. But honestly, how many people are going to be racing their GT in a straight line other than events like the Texas Mile?
No. Not when compared to other supercars. The previous GT put down 550hp from its supercharged v8. After 9yrs the best they can do is just 50hp more (if this turns out to be be the accurate hp figures)? They should have stayed with a V8.
Perhaps you are talking about supercars for the poseur crowd. 600 hp is more than enough for 24 hr endurance racing.
When was the last time you saw a Bugatti Veyron or any of the other supercars that Basketball players buy on a racetrack?
There are cars built for real racing, Corvette, Porsche, Ford GT, Viper, BMW, some Ferrari's etc and then there are the 1000hp cars built for the faux racers.
It might but that's not what I was referring to. You claimed that HP wasn't everything and used the example of the GT-R and 911 Turbo being faster to 60mph than the ZR1 despite them both having less HP. I stated that both cars are able to accomplish that with less HP due to them both being equipped with launch control and in the case of the GT-R, AWD.
Love the front end, like the sides, and even the rear 3/4 view...but not a huge fan of the wing to roof design going on in the back end, or the big gaping holes between the 1/4 panel and the main body...it's "different" but that doesn't really get me going.
Doesn't matter anyhow, my measly salary won't allow me to purchase one...EVER!

And you proved my point. It ISN'T everything. Porsche, Nissan, and others, use other means of accomplishing solid numbers. There are several other reasons why those two examples perform so well despite mid-500hp ratings.
