hey all,

I have no clue about clutch adjustment. Here's my problem:

Clutch must be pressed to floor to engage gear or gears will grind. Is pedal height adjustable?
It's a 1995 Ford Explorer 5 speed.

thanks
MandK

If I recall correctly, that's a hydraulic slave/master clutch on your vehicle. Hence, no adjustment. Your sympton suggests the clutch disc has worn to the end of it's servicable usage. Time for a clutch replacement.

Since that clutch is coming out, you may as well looking to replacing that clutch slave cylinder, too. It's inside the transmission bellhousing.

Not adjustable with the hydraulic actuation.

However, there are bushings for the clutch pedal travel to the clutch master cylinder which can be worn out.

You need to be certain that these parts are in place and functioning properly. They include the bushing for the clutch pedal to the master cylinder ... a very common wear item that is essential to the correct linkage actuation. Easy to see and replace, a few dollar item at your Ford dealer. Get the factory OE part, it seems to last longer than the aftermarket ones.

Then there's the bushings in the "pedal box" which can be worn to a point where the clutch pedal shaft doesn't rotate, but flops around. A bit harder to spot looking up at the shaft when you apply pressure to the clutch pedal, but it will be pretty obvious if this a problem. A PITA to remove the pedal box and install the bushing kit from the dealer, but this will eliminate a lot of slop in the clutch linkage.

If either of these common failure items is bad in your vehicle, no replacement of the clutch components will cure the problem; ie, you could install a completely new clutch assembly with a new flywheel and t/o bearing and you'd still have the original problem. So check these items out before condemning the clutch.
