Has anyone has issues with the voice commands? Or with using your GPS on your smart phone and no voice directions when driving? The service at the dealership told me I had to register it online for it to work. Is that right? I have a 2011 Ford Escape.

Mine is a 2014, so it may not be the same, but yes. We had to register it online
in order to get much of it to work, including the vehicle health report.

I was told because mine was older I had to register it online and it works with my cell phone somehow with text messages? Please explain. Also it may require to do frequent updates online. Please explain. I know the Ford Edge isn't like this. How come?
The wife's 2014 Fusion was setup at the dealer when we picked it up. They had issues with and took it in the back for some tech to do something with it. Came back working like a charm. We didn't have to register anything on our end, maybe at the dealer. We did register the car with Ford after 2 weeks but the Sync worked the day we picked it up. My truck, 2014 F150 SCrew, I've never set it up and probably won't. I'm fairly low tech.
I may not set it up. I flip around channels on am-fm and only have a trial of Sirius which is frequently going out from a split second to 10 minutes. I've called then and they sent a signal but still is acting up. I pretty much know my way around but use the GPS for times to get to a place or finding new ones which isn't often. I'll survive without the technology.

We pay for the sirius since the free period ran out, but for our frequent 3-8 hour road trips on the open highway. Around here there are too many tree canopies, and it cuts out often. The signing up on the computer is to get the phone number registered for the features like turn-by-turn directions and the vehicle health report, including recall notices, and service reminders. Ours did work right from the dealer
for playing music from the phone, voice commands to change the channel, make calls etc. Our dealer has a tech guy that showed us everything in detail and got it going the day we picked up the Escape.
Go to the dealership where you bought the car and they will teach you for free
