Ton's of factors

I'd suggest going to E-Bay and search " Police " in the automotive section

Crown Vic's ran from 1992 - 2011

Pretty dependable units as many went into Taxi service after Law Enforcement

"My Agency attempts to retire a patrol vehicle at 100,000 miles. Quite often, they go well beyond that. Our patrol vehicles are assigned take homes, so the care and maintenance are far above average. OTH, many agencies, the majority in fact, run vehicles 24/7, and vehicles simply aren't built to withstand that use for too long. Would I buy a used police vehicle? Given a choice, no. As has been correctly noted, they are often cheap for a reason."

I rode in two different ones as cabs not too long ago and was less than impressed by the ride and road handling. Granted they were older Crown Vics, early 2000s probably and beaten around but for a bigger sedan I thought they'd be quieter and handled better. Room was okay but not cavernous like I thought it would be.
Craigslist and Municibid are good places to look. I think they'd still make a good beater work car, especially if you didn't have to drive too far and the price was low. Now maybe those Dodge magnums will be discussed more as they leave service.

Not as common up here anymore. Sure I still see retired police cars on the road, but they have been own for several years now. Currently, in my area, used PI Taurus's and Explorers are what's coming up for bid now at auction.

Many years ago I bought a used police car. The acceleration was incredible. If I was waiting to get on the highway and a car passed me and I floored it from a dead stop I would catch up to and pass that car in just a few seconds. I sold it after a few weeks. It was burning more than a quart of oil per day and I couldn't afford the oil!

seems like for a few more bucks (and really only a few, resale is not so good but they're great cars) you can get grandpa's meticulous maintained late-model Mercury Grand Marquis. Basically the same as a CVPI, minus some odds and ends that matter to police and not necessarily civilians, but probably lived a much easier life puttering around the highway at 51mph

Yep, I still see them on eBay as a result of estate sales.

Care and Maintenance? There is another thread on here about used CV's and someone who was a fleet manager for a local police forced chimed in and reported these cars were beaten like Rodney King!
Also consider the idling hours on those motors!
