ElkHunter, you didn't mention which engine the truck has. I don't recall what the options were for 1989 -
Assuming you want a truck, not a car, this could be an OK rig for you.
The surface rust on the top of the cab would be an easy fix, there is usually enough of a line around the top that blending the paint is relatively easy. Or just ignore it, it wouldnt' rust through in 100 years.
Just for something completely different, ever think about a 1980's VW hatchback? The GTI's are still around in good numbers, reasonably fast, fun to drive, won't haul the weight the truck would but will carry a lot of volume, you can get a lot of groceries in one. 30 MPG all day long, maybe 35 if you try to economize.
Old thread. Did you get it Elk Hunter? If I was Ranger shopping I would go for 93 on... Like the body style. Engine would be either 3.0 or 4.0. I think I would favor the 3.0 it is a good engine with decent power and economy. I would also like 5 speed and perhaps a 4 wheeled drive.

Wouldn't bother with a 4x4 3.slow Ranger.
4.0L gets basically the same MPGs.
Loved my 94 2.3L/5-speed SuperCab, but it turned into an Inline 3 when it dropped to zero compression on cylinder 4. Oh, and I need cruise control for those days when the knee flares up...
