The RS outclasses any FWD drive car you can imagine and therefore has to compete with more complex cars like Mitsubishi's Evo and Subaru's WRX STI. But after a few minutes in the Focus, that feels like cheating. Like hitting home runs with a 13-inch novelty bat, the Ford just feels better.
It look's nice and yeah agreed it should of had AWD.
but that green is very 2001 fast and furious not sure if I would go for that colour if I were in the market.
You and I have gone in circles on the shortcomings (my position) and adequacy (your position) of FWD in performance cars before and I don't really feel like doing it again.
This may be my future compact. I'll take one in black.
I see it selling well for ford with it's wicked styling and direct injection that get's gobs of power and great fuel economy. This may be the car that people with plain jane toyota's will trade in to buy and right now the cobalt has no chance to compete with the 2011 focus.
The RS is a pretty solid rocket but AWD would have made it a much more compelling package. The primary reason for the FWD layout is cost, not performance.
This is 100% never comming to America, the next-gen Focus arrives in early 2011 and Ford has plans to introduce a successor to the RS Hatch while possibly killing the Focus sport models completely. Ford's uniting all divisions and introducing European models in America, so we're definately getting a next-gen Focus based FWD sports coupe/hatch...however, it's most likely going to be marketed under the Capri or Puma namesake and will compete with the VW Scirocco. So essentially we ARE 100% definately getting the next "Focus RS" although we'll miss out on the current puke-lime colored version, and we can expect to probably see a working concept appear at an auto show sometime after the next-gen Focus launches worldwide in early 2011. However, this new model will carry a classic namesake and be marketed alongside the Mustang as opposed to staying as a member of the Focus family. The Reflex concept car may be tied-in with this project, it was supposed to lead to a production model in 2008 or 2009 but never materialized after its 2006 debut, and now all of a sudden after vanishing for a handfull of years, Ford is again bringing the Reflex concept to autoshows...most recently the Vancouver and Montreal shows.
Rumors say there could potentially be even two new models, a new Capri based off of the Focus, and a new Puma based off of the Fiesta. One of those two or the Hyundai "Veloster" will more than likely be my next car. Small/light, DI/Turbo 4CYLs that ballpark the 200HP/40MPG range are going to be all the rage...rumors broke yesterday that Toyota is even building a smaller/lighter/cheaper companion to the upcomming FT-86 coupe, probably working under the Celica namesake.
