No judgment, just stating the obvious however uncomfortable you may find it. You chose to purchase the house. Along with your choice came a commitment, a promise to pay for it. Now that your income has changed it's understandable that some adjustments are necessary. Many in your situation find it more appropriate to cut back on expenses than to not follow through with paying off the loan. You asked earlier "what we should do?" Again, my answer is take a look at bringing the college student home and find another activity for the hockey player. Perhaps they both can get part-time jobs to help with the mortgage payments.
