We are moving to FC once our home in Michigan is sold and have a son who will attend community college right away. Can anyone give me info about the neighborhoods surrounding Front Range CC? It would be great if he could walk or bike to class. We can rent or buy... 225K max. Will that work in that area? Thank you for any help you can offer..

One way to check on home prices is to use sites like realtor.com or the local site which shows 677 properties in Fort Collins at $225k or below. Google Maps can also locate homes for sale and has the added feature of letting you search by zooming in on the map.

thanks Mike... I see there are alot of homes in that general area in my price range. I guess what I also want to ask... is SW Fort Collins a nice area for empty nesters? We would like to be able to make it convenient for our son to get to school, but would also like to be able to get to downtown restaurants and gathering places.... meet people our age (early 50's).. any thoughts?

SW FC is a nice area with relatively newer homes. My mum had a house built in SW FC, in the Harmony Road/Ziegler Road area. There's many young families in the area, but also families that the kids have left the nest. My mum likes the neighborhood she lives in which is the English Ranch neighborhood, but there are plenty of places/communities. You could go for a nice house or even a pretty large condo or townhome. SW FC isn't close to Old Town/Downtown, but it's justa quick drive down College Avenue (10-15 minutes) to get there. Also, there is a new development of resturants/gathering places on Harmony Road, between Timberline Road & Ziegler Road. They also built that outdoor/strip mall on the corner of Harmony & Ziegler. On College Ave & Harmony there are also some resturants there. Timberline & Harmony has Old Chicago, Macaroni Grill, Texas Roadhouse & few other places.

You're talking about Southeast Fort Collins. Front Range Community College is Harmony and Shields. Southwest Fort Collins is generally older than Southeast Fort Collins, mostly 70s construction I believe. It is a nice area too, though.

You can find a place near the community college for 200,000 or less.

Update! The house is sold! We will be coming to FC within 45 days or so. Can anyone give me advice about short term rentals? Would prefer furnished so we don't have to move furniture twice once we find a house there. thank you again =)

Don't ignore Loveland either. We're in NW Loveland and FRCC is maybe 15 minutes from our house. Not sure about furnished rentals but in addition to Mike's suggestions take a look on Craigslist too.

Congratulations on selling the MI house.

Furnished rentals are hard to come by. And moving twice kind of sucks. In my experience it is best to narrow down the neighborhood you want to be in and go for it! It is hard to go wrong here. It will depend if you want new construction or a larger home and price. Old Town is bit further down College than the CC but still easy to get to. There are soo many great restaurants and shops in Old Town you will love it!
