My 3year old step child has been diagnosed with Autism. I am unable to find any special therapists/programs in Fort Collins. If any one has any information, please let me know. Thanks.

We have a friend whose son is autistic. They take him to school in Longmont because there is a special school there for them. Sorry I do not know the name of it. I would contact the school system down there. Let me know if you have any issues.

That's interesting, do you know if it is a public or private school?

Fort Collins actually has a great program for autistic kids in their public schools, but if Longmont has better I would love to hear about it.

Hi Nevada1427,

There's an organization in Greeley named Community Advantage. I know they offer services such as group homes and private homes for developmentally disabled adults, but they may be able to refer you to something for your child. They also have services in Longmont.

Nevada1427-Sorry I do not have much information for you. I know our friends tried both Fort Collins and Loveland for their son and did not like the schools much. They seem to really like Longmont for him though. Maybe it is the organization that Dispatch is talking about. Good luck to you.

Ask your doctor for some help with resources, or whoever diagnosed your child.

Ever thought of Therapeutic Riding? If you find a place in longmont, I've heard great things about Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center from a family who's autistic son I had in my camp group. They had said they'd been doing it for years.

I am a speech-language pathologist in Fort Collins, CO, at the Speech & Language Stimulation Center. We work quite a bit with children on the autism spectrum. We like Michelle Garcia Winner's (Social Thinking) approach, but we also use a variety of techniques. We could help you find other programs in town too, e.g., the Children's Speech and Reading Center. Our number is 970 495-1150 Speech & Language Stimulation Center Home
