Would like to know where the most gay-friendly neighborhoods are in Ft Collins and northwest of Ft Collins. Am interested in finding property in one of these neighborhoods and looking for a realtor who can steer me towards gay friendly neighborhoods and places. Have no familiarity with Ft Collins and would like to find an unusual and/or older house in the $200,000 to $300,000 range for a three person family. Or a mountain or rural property. What realtors would have the most familiarity with these questions?

I think you would find many welcoming neighborhoods in Fort Collins. The town is much more "Traditional" family oriented the farther away from Old Town ( College ave and Mountain ave) so you may be most interested in nearby areas to there. Also, there is a lot more diverse activitys in town anyway. A lot of alternative couples also choose mountain properties if not needing the city conveniences. From my experience, I often see gay residents here and they seem to enjoy it as much as anyone. Hope this helps.

I went to college in Fort Collins and for the most part the entire city is gay friendly. Personally I like the southern part of town the best but that is just personal preference. The one exception would be downtown as it is cute and I think would be fun to live in.

You will find that Fort Collins is pretty accepting, in general, with a decent sized gay community. I don't believe that there are neighborhoods that are more friendly to alternative lifestyles than others, but have seen gay households in many different parts of town. As mentioned above, records show that the southern parts of town tend to vote more conservatively.

If you already haven't, please check out the Fort Pride website located at GLBT Resources for Northern Colorado. Under the resource tab you can find the "Home & insurance" section which has four realtors listed.

As you probably already know, you're going to find a mixed bag of acceptance and homophobia in Colorado cities.

Unfortunately same-sex marriage hasn't been legalized here in Colorado YET but that should give you an idea about where the state is on that topic (just like any other state).

Fort Collins is a pretty hip town and very accepting. There are not designated neighborhoods for gay households, but I tend to think Old Town and a lot of the surrounding hip loft areas would be a good place to start.

really, Sunderpig, really?
Well disregard Sunderpig - - I am an openly gay man from Fort Collins and have been there since 1968. The city is extremely gay friendly and you will not have any problems integrating in the community.

Jeanireland, we are asking exactly the same question. My spouse (Thank you , Iowa) and I will be retiring in 2020. We are just an old, keep-to-ourselves, quiet couple of married guys. I have heard horror stories of gay couples harassed, pets poisoned, cars vandalized, etc. by deranged homophobic neighbors...I want to make sure the neighbors don't make life miserable for us. We are so hopeful of all the things we have read about Collins....We are looking around CSU, Old Town area, less than $ 200K with a yard...Thanks to all the encouraging posts..

Aw, well I hope you both (jeanireland and dfwguy) find a place here that you'll love. If I was moving here with your budgets I would definitely look around Old Town. I love it there and wish I could afford it!

Everyone I know has been largely accepting so I think you'll fit in with little (and hopefully zero) issues, less the fact that gay marriage is not acknowledged here. Yet.
