Congrats on your job offer.
Thanks for the congrats. I'm really looking forward to moving to Northern Colorado and slowing down a bit.

Do I think it stinks that educated people are getting paid $9/hr? Yes. And I agree that it's concerning for people with degrees because they most likely have debt and getting ahead will be impossible. But, if that is what the employers are able to get away paying, then somebody out there is willing to do the work.

My concern is more that there is an entire generation of people who expect to be making a boatload of money because they finished college. Generation Entitlement. Great job finishing school but it's time to prove you've got the chops in the business world.

It's a tough situation all around.

But this is exactly what the previous generation has been brainwashing us with for the last 30 years. Because that's what it was like for them. You pretty much just had to go to college and you could get a decent job.

I agree there are probably too many kids wasting money in college today when their true vocation lies elsewhere, but when people are doing everything right, putting in the effort, and still have little opportunity that's a problem.

These 2 werent expecting to make a 'boatload' of money.. teacher and social worker? c'mon we all know what those jobs pay... but they are passionate about the careers they chose (we wish ALL teachers and social workers were passionate.) . I think what you say is true, Davemess.. 30 years ago, a college education was a big leg-up in the world.. not so much now. HOWEVER there are still those jobs that REQUIRE a degree, sometimes even an advanced degree. You can't 'prove yourself' elsewhere... Those should pay enough to live somewhere other than your parents basement.

I went to nursing school in FC and to get a job in a hospital - i relocated to wyoming. I was hired almost on the spot. At PVH they get 100's of applicants for entry level positions. I would recommend the teacher and social worker do the same. Maybe with a couple years experience it will be easier for them in northern CO but it is a shame for them to be wasting their time in low paid jobs where they can't use their education when they probably can get a position elsewhere - even if it isn't their first choice on where they want to live.
