It has nothing to do with "the cultural war". It has to do with severe fire danger throughout the state and the fact that we've just dealt with the most destructive wildfire in the state's history. But I feel for you - the City "owed" you a fireworks show and didn't deliver.

cobmw - There's a good chance that firefighters from in and around FC were actively involved with fighting the High Park fire (and others). Based on the long hours and very tough conditions - not to mention being away from their families - you need to show some respect and consideration. They probably needed a much-deserved break. And yes, they would be the same folks to monitor and assist with a fireworks presentation. Did you ever even consider that? You sound a lot like a disrespectful young kid.

I'm with delta7 about the suggestion of you moving to a location where there would never be a fire risk (such as the deserts of Arizona?) if it is such a big deal to you. And if fireworks = patriotism (and therefore no fireworks = no patriotism, in your mind) then maybe the deep south might be the place for you. They're very big into material objects as signs of true patiotism, such as flags and fireworks, which never fought a war or shed any blood for you.

Sounds like liberal entitlement to me. I've got one word; WAA!

There should be some GREAT 2013 New Years fireworks...!

Usually a quite low fire danger at that time (tho THAT too can depend...)

I strongly support the current ban... (considering the risk / sensitivity to fire danger)

Actually, I use to live 2 blocks from City Park (Central Park is in New York, btw ). While it may seem miles and miles away from fire danger, it isn't. And, as others pointed out, the firefighters that fought so hard to keep the High Park fire out of town, are probably still working on it and therefore the resources aren't there to staff a municipal fireworks show. If you were so hell bent on seeing a display, then why didn't you get into your car and drive to a town that had one?

I hardly think that not having a fireworks display during one of the driest and worst fire seasons ever is an intrusive government decision. It's common sense! I actually think it was dumb for any city in most of Colorado to allow the fireworks displays, but that's just me. I stand by my comment to move.

Wow, some people...
Just goes to show that "common sense" is not so common anymore.
Certainly nothing can ever go wrong with a professional fireworks display...

And the other Colorado cities that held fireworks displays were being insensitive to firemen?

Fort Collins has long had a city council run by libs. Now Colorado has a governor cut from the same cloth. These guys are certainly not going out of their way to encourage a public gathering that makes people feel good about American traditions.

The govenor and our city council can try to hide behind the recent forest fires to prohibit a once a year event. They have the power to prohibit whatever they want. But the rest of us don't have to like it.

The stands at the July 4 Bandimere event that we attended were full of Americans who value what this country ought to be. People showed respect during the prayer before the event and all felt great when the two air force jets overflew the track. It was a truly patriotic gathering. And while nothing was said you could feel a spirit in the air that goes directly against the overpowering government that the libs are relentlessly campaigning for. Perhaps some changes in November.

I thought I had heard everything under the sun blamed on a persons political leanings until now. Blaming the decision to POSTPONE (not BAN) the FTC city sponsered fireworks show after the 2nd most destructive fire in CO's history on a city councils political persuasion brings Ackerman's comments to mind about the public getting dumber.

From the 'local rag' concerning fireworks: http://www.coloradoan.com/apps/pbcs....=2012306290026
and
Colorado governor bans open burning, home fireworks | The Coloradoan | coloradoan.com.

There were several other articles stating the same thing over & over, so that people would be aware.

It clearly states in the article that only private fireworks are banned. Maybe if you weren't so wrapped up in finding a connection to "libs" so that you can lay blame on them, you wouldn't have missed that tidbit. Believe it or not, some decisions are still made based on common sense and not on pleasing the democrat or republican parties, even though there are plenty of people who find a way to blame one party or the other for what they had to eat for dinner last night.

Today's lib rag (Coloradoan) says that the fireworks show will be held in the fall. Geez maybe we can use the fireworks to celebrate something really patriotic like Earth Day. That would make the gov and the city council happy.

I was personally ashamed of my local towns' (Pueblo West and Pueblo) decision to proceed with fireworks displays but MrsGowdog and I decided to go investigate and make sure all was safe just in case.
