A few months ago I bought a no HOA house one street off a very well to do HOA neighborhood. Couldn't be happier. Get lots of the benefits as our street looks lovely but none of the rules. IMO that is the type of house to look for.... the one so close people feel guilty and conform with the HOA they don't live in.

Because in the whole process of advertising, promotion, & sale of the home, people are not made fully aware of what they are getting into. Little attention is directed to the info about the HOA & CC&Rs and all that it means. It's not hidden, but it's not given proper attention.

The end of the story, the case has been settled:
Homeowners association settles lawsuit against Loveland couple that built critical sign in front yard

Quote:
A Loveland man removed a controversial sign from his front yard Thursday more than a month after he constructed the billboard to criticize his neighborhood's homeowners association.

But Rich Stephens, the resident, did so with a promise from the Alford Meadows Community Association that it would never again harass him over a wooden pallet painted to resemble a colonial American flag hanging from the side of his house on the corner of West 50th Street and Crabapple Drive.

The association's original complaint was about that very yard decoration. . .

The entire matter was so childish; the HOA complaining about the flag decoration, and the resident putting up the the huge and juvenile sign. Both parties acted like fools, with the greater folly probably coming from the home owner(s). I'm glad I don't live in that area.
