I read somewhere the water bills in Berthoud are over $200 per month?

What about Loveland?

Is this true?

I cannot speak of Berthoud, but I live in Loveland and our bill has never been anything close to that. This past month, it was $26-for three people in the house. The most it is is about $53 in the summer, and that includes me watering my garden often.

Loveland and Berthoud are different water companies, and yes Berthoud is outrageously high. For a family of 4 with a small lawn we were paying $150-175 a month.

Water in Fort Collins is usually in the $100s, and often into the $200s in the summer. The only cases I've seen of people with bills below $100 are with folks who don't take showers very often and have no lawn, and/or live in those duplex/apartment setups that are mushrooming around the area and are all the rage now. You pay $400,000 to live in what is essentially a bland apartment. They even refer to those as "houses". It's hilarious.

My wife and I live in a house in Fort Collins with a 6000 square foot lot and our highest water bill last year was $30.00 in one month (and we do take daily showers). But our entire yard is xeriscaped and we never use enough to exceed the rate for the lowest tier of water pricing. I can believe that $100 to $200 per month bills are common in the summer based on the amount of water it takes to keep a lawn green. In my opinion, however, the top tier rates are not high enough to drive a substantial change in behavior regarding the use of irrigated turf for landscaping.

Just the base prices in Berthoud run at $41.09 and $10.12 per 1000 gallons used for the 1st 24,000 gallons used. So it is not lawn choice type, Berthoud has some of the highest water rates I have ever heard of and they are wanting to raise them again due to the issues they are having with poor quality.

They seem to want to promote extreme avoidance of water usage. Turn it into a low priority for residents. Just grin and bear it, toughen up.
