Default Renting Apt. in Ft. Collins...

I will be moving to Fort Collins in early August and am still looking for an apt. I am coming from Iowa and it has made it a little more difficult finding a place. Can anybody offer some actual Apt. names that are relatively nice? Just a relatively safe place that I don't have to worry about my vehicle getting jacked or anything....not too picky. Any suggestions would help, thanks for any input.

Why apt? you can find small houses in the south part of the town, It's pretty new and has everything around, I'm thinking Harmony and Timberline.

WEll i would like a small Apt bc they are generally cheaper than a house... every penny counts on a tight economy.... i have always wondered the cost of a decent rental (apt, home, cabin, studio, etc..0 in this area and where the safe areas are...

My estimates after renting a bit in FC and house shopping (per month rates):

Apt = $600 and up (studio/ 1 bedroom and up)
House = $1000 and up

The place I currently stay in is $650 for 1 bedroom and $720 for 2 bedroom and it is a decent place. Older 70s built apts with single pane windows, centralized laundry, but right next to a local park and fairly quiet. There are better places with better amenities like garages, fireplace, in-unit laundry, newer interior, but you would have to add about $200 per month extra to get it.

I think any place in FC is pretty safe - your call on what type of area you want to be in (yuppie-ville/south FC, downtown, college area, north FC).

My recomendation would be
1 - line a few up that do have vacancies
2 - get there, get in an extended stay type motel so your now local.
3 - drive around the area and visit the ones you've identified.

I made the mistake of wanting to save on the motel money above by renting over the phone from across the country. Nightmare.
