Berthoud?
What can anyone tell me about Berthoud? How about the schools? I have seen some country rentals there and it looks to be a nice location between two larger towns. Thanks.

It is a smaller town located between Longmont and Loveland. It has two or three schools if I remember right. One or two are elementary and the third is Berthoud High School. It is easy access to the surrounding areas via Hwy 287. It is a nice little community.

It has a pretty strong community spirit, nice and also much quieter now that the highway bypasses the town.
There is some grocery shopping in town, but you will be driving to Loveland, Longmont, or Ft Collins for work and most shopping.

Berthoud is a fantastic town to live in. I grew up in Loveland, then moved to Longmont, and after having children moved to Berthoud partially because of the schools. I am a real estate broker and it has been a great place to work and raise our family.

Berthoud is a great "small" town. There are no big retail stores and very few fast food restaurants. It has a great community feel and support from the community. Major shopping would need to be done in Loveland, Fort Collins, or Longmont/Boulder. All schools in Larimer County are really good.

Is this still a good area? Low crime rate? My husband & I are looking to buy in this area or the Ft. Collins area for retirement in a few years. We are planning a trip next month. We are looking for a couple of areas. Any recommendations?

Berthoud, Loveland, Fort Collins, and Windsor would be good places to look. Berthoud and Windsor are small towns, with a small town feel. Loveland and Fort Collins are bigger, and have more shopping and services. All of these communities have relatively low crime rates.
When planning for retirement buying, keep in mind proximity to senior services, medical facilitites, activities, climate, etc.
Good luck in your search.

dlconcidine;
We looked at many of the towns in this area before deciding on Loveland to retire to. Good library, I can walk to golf, ride my bike to the grocery, post office and several good restaurants.

Thanks
Sounds good. I need a good library. Plus yes, we already noted that we need to find where the nearest hospital, vet, etc are. It sucks getting old! We had seen that Ft. Collins was always rated very high but were looking a nearby communities also. Berthoud was mentioned but now I will also check out Loveland & Windsor too.

Loveland has a great library. The day I closed on our house I took my closing documents down and got my card. Good, reasonably priced restaurants, a nice "last picture show" movie theatre downtown that has things going on 300 days a year it seems, an active community theatre and lots of doctors and medical stuff.
We no longer have pets but we seem to be the only ones around that don't so I know there are lots of vets in town.
