Default Tornadoes in Ft. Collins or Windsor

I hear Ft. Collins is a great place to live. My family is considering a move to CO but don't want to be anywhere near places with tornadoes..How about Ft. Collins? And is it true that the tornadoes don't form until the east side of the mountains?

Have to admit I'd never heard of tornadoes happening in North Colorado until today but apparently we do get them once in a while. I think they tend to happen further East of the Front Range altho they have struck the suburbs of Denver too - tho I don't know when that last happened. We do see funnel clouds sometimes and we get tornado watches during the Summer.

The mountains disrupt the airflow needed to develop and maintain a tornado.

Usually they are found on the plains, east of I-25.

Denver area gets more damage from hail storms than from a tornado.

Personally, in the 18 years I have lived here I have heard one and saw two others.

Coming from Nebraska...there's not really not much to worry about in regards to Tornados. Some do come down out east of I25 though.

had a pretty strong one ~ 1965 ~ 3 miles WEST of Loveland (thet would be ~ 10 miles WEST of I-25). A lone chimney stood on a knoll to the north of Hwy 34 for many years. (across from what was Rocky Mountain Pottery). It totally wiped the brick house. Took our friend's large barn, and rotated their home ~ 20 deg on the foundation. The wife and grandkids were in the NW bedroom closet and got a ride.

They're pretty rare that close to the mountains, wewatched it from our home NE of Big T School. . I don't miss the hail storms there, but I got good at roofing.... When we moved to WA, Our Colo car had a dent ~ 2" deep on the fender. (it requires a large sledge hammer to do that damage). That storm killed three horses in Ft C. (I think one baby too, not positive). The 'stones' were ~ 2-3" dia, they punched right through the roofs in some cases. Whoever was throwing them had a real arm. (bit intense for your average 'gravity' fall). They usually come during early baseball season / spring training.

That's what I just heard, too. There's a tornado warning out for Weld County and the cell is moving straight for Loveland/Fort Collins... I hope it isn't anything major!

We're having another one today. Most of the damage I've heard of was east of I-25, but Fort Collins is definitely in Tornado Watch mode.

I have been streaming Fox31 and Kusa channel9. The Kodak plant has been hit by Windsor, ther'es one east of the Fort St. Vrain Plant by Gilcrest, one near Akron, apparently are a couple in SE Wyoming. I live west of Grand Junction, the winds were have been howling since yesterday. Looks like Nebraska and Kansas are gonna get this one, sadly.
