It looks as though we will be getting a home situated right between Loveland and Berthoud. (There was much deliberation re: where we'd live; this area just feels right for us.)

The home we're buying is a short sale, but actually looks like it's going through. It is within the Thompson Valley H.S. area, but I understand we have the option of enrolling our daughter in Berthoud.

We suspect Berthoud would be a better fit for numerous reasons, too boring to subject you to. Largest reason is that it is so small. Looks like a place where kids know everyone in their respective classes, which is what DD is used to and loves.

I would so appreciate anyone chiming in with any experience with either of these schools, good or bad.

I guess I should say that it is important to us not to throw our child into, how shall I put this, an uber-materialistic environment. We are really glad that she has made it through grade 7 (I know h.s. is another year off, we're planning ahead) without becoming enamored with labels, name-brands, et al. She currently attends a (small town) school that has a mix of poorest to oil money wealthy. It is very unpretentious and we love that. Our hope is that both/either Berthoud or Thompson Valley (Loveland) will be somewhat similar.

Actually, both schools look pretty good to us, Berthoud a bit ahead due to small size.

Again, any insight very appreciated!

I think both schools are very comparable.

Is sports, swimming, drama, band a priority?

Socially Berthoud used to be pretty difficult for HS, but I understand that after the accident a few years ago in which a gal student hit some ice and maimed a couple football students, that the Berthoud community and school really rallied around each other.

You might want to check into alternatives to HS (not knowing what your criteria for preferring Berthoud is)

Our kids went to college instead of HS (Jr and Sr yr) paid for by WA State. Most states have a similar program. Getting close to a Jr college or U can be helpful, tho ours drove ~ 50 miles / day to make it work.
