Hi, thank you for taking a second to help me out.

I recently got a job offer in Palm Beach county and need to move down by next month. I am in my late 20's and engaged, no kids. The only family we have is in Davie so my fiance and I have been looking for a place (we can afford) in Broward county to be near family plus from what I can tell Broward in generally less expensive than PB County.

We are considering buying a Palm Harbor modular home because they are under $100K, brand new. Does anyone have any experience with these type homes? I'm figuring this is our best option for a "quick move" because we don't have much $ to put down and one community is offering us a $10,000 grant toward the down payment of the home plus $200 off the land rent for 2 years.

Open to any suggestions! Thanks

Be very careful buying a mobile home here in Broward county. Firstly, they do not hold their value. Secondly, they do not hold up well when there is a hurricane or tropical storm in the area.

Can you afford to rent? I would advise a new resident to rent for a while and once you are here you can start to look at purchasing something other than a mobile home. You may be able to find a condo in an acceptable price range for you.

Agreed with renting for awhile.. you can find all sorts of affordable rental communities in palm beach county... boca, delray, even a bit further south in Deerfield and Pompano.

I would NOT get a mobile home.. especially in south florida with the likelihood of hurricanes and high winds...

Where in Palm Beach did you get a job? Palm Beach is pretty huge...

You can get 2/2 condos in decent areas of west broward for $40k. Don't waste your money on a mobile home.

I have extended family who live in a townhouse community in Coral Springs, and they like it.

Stay away from modular / mobile homes...... This is hurricane alley and every time there is a tropical storm or hurricane warning you're going to have to evacuate and possibly come back to nothing if it is destroyed by a storm.

As others have mentioned, rent for a while until you know the different areas better to decide on where to buy.

Where in Palm Beach county is this job offer. Depending on that, there are nice places to rent in Wellington and Lake Worth (Palm Beach County)

Did you say Palm Harbor? That is on the west coast of FL near Tampa. That is about 5 hours away from Palm Beach and Broward County.

Rent an apartment...there are so many and some are really nice with pools and families...don't buy a modular home here. Wait until you get to know the area and then figure out what you can afford.
