Fort Lauderdale in general is more expensive than the surrounding suburbs. Its a prime area.

I'm searching for places to live on Craigslist. What's the name of the area inside 33305, 33306 and 33308? Thanks!

The area east of I95 and east of the Tarpon River is decent (single family homes and the River Reach condo community), but I'd avoid west of the River (the area east of I95 by Stranahan High School and north of Davie Road where a lot of low income housing is located).

The neighborhood known as Shady Banks, south of Davie Blvd., is made up of very nicely kept homes, some on ocean access deepwater canals. Further east, Croissant Park is fine (as someone pointed out above).

The whole area around Davie Blvd. is very neighborhood specific. You need to really drive around to understand what you are dealing with.

Default Bad Neighborhoods in Fort Lauderdale

Beware of any generalizations, out west in Lauderdale Lakes for instance is dangerous. I spoke with a Security Guard in Walmart on ST Rd 7, and he said always carry a gun. Any place with lots of apartments could be public housing and be cautious. The area around MLK blvd, areas north of Broward and east of 95, Sistrunk Blvd. all cautious. I came from New Orleans and it is much more scary here due to the large number of people and proportionally more dangerous folks. Heck a Security Guard was shot in a Walmart by an ex employee over a few stolen T shirts. I am not a bigot and there are some nice people of all nationalities but there is more crime in the black communities here and in New Orleans. Google: Hate crimes in Knoxville to see what can happen, and if they government quits supporting a large number of people that do not work then there will once again be riots in the street.

That's good advice for anywhere...but on the other hand I wouldn't be taking advice from a Security Guard.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

Cops don't carry guns to protect YOU, they carry them to protect themselves.
