I remember growing up Sheridan and that area were pretty nice. I haven't lived in So. Fla. for about 12 years now, but am looking to come back. Is Hollywood a decent place like Seridan and US1? Any input is great thanks.

Sheridan and US1 wasn't a great area 12 years ago IMO, but it hasn't changed much if that's what you mean. It is still nice a couple blocks east of US1 and still quite run down and sketchy from US1 westward. Sheridan west of 95 is a nice area too, until about 56th Ave. I would say that anything in Hollywood about two blocks east of US1 in Hollywood is pretty nice, the same goes for Hallandale and Dania, and most of the area west of US1 to 95 needs to be avoided.

Not exactly US1 more like Sheridan and 441/SR7. I remember my family living behind the temple and Sheridan Tech and it was a pretty decent area. I am looking for places that are a little more affordable than Miami. I still have family in Sunny Isles but I know I cannot afford that area.

U.S 1 is really the line of demarcation for Hollywood now between marginal and nice (east of U.S. is the latter).

Prior to 2007, the neighborhoods just west of U.S. really were "improving", but then the bust really hurt those areas as foreclosures took over and renters inhabit many homes (like so many neighborhoods in S. Fla.). East of U.S. 1 (the Lakes area in particular) are still very good from what I hear although I don't go to H-wood anymore.

I agree with SK, the area behind Sheridan Tech is nice. Sheridan Tech is acutally a good dividing line, and I would say anything from the school eastward to 95 is quite nice, while the areas heading west towards State Road 7 are a bit weathered and run down, if not dangerous.

Additionally, that's a relatively expensive part of Hollywood, although you will get a single family home there for the price of a condo in Sunny Isles. If you like that area, you might find some deals in Aventura if you like condos. Pembroke Pines and Cooper City are also affordable areas near Hollywood that are decent.

Sheridan between 441 and I-95 is decent. Once you get onto 441, it gets rough. Not dangerous, just very industrial and ugly looking. Lots of lower-end retail, industry, construction companies, and Seminole Indian casino's along that 441 corridor. Also, if you go east of I-95 it is very run-down and crime ridden.

Are you set on that specific area? Why not look further west on Sheridan west of the Turnpike? There are some decent areas in Davie, Pembroke Pines, and Cooper City.

There are some blocks and houses west of 56th ave/ east of 441 that arent bad at all. Actually north of taft street is not bad at all.

I lived between 56th and 441 near johnson for a while, there was a lot of rentals, and some troubled people in the neighborhood. I witnessed a few serious fights happen when I lived there over a period of 5 years. But I actually never had any problems at all, besides the fact my wife and I were living in a 400 sf apartment.

Hollwood also extends west of the turnpike. Almost to university in some places. Up to 72nd ave in others. And its not rich but a decent working class neighborhood.

I don't think it's that bad overall. This is basically the the impression that I get of the area, that you might find a lot of domestic issues but not necessarily much in the way of street crime or property crime. Also, the area heading SOUTH of Hollywood Blvd between 56th and 441 (Lawn Acres) is VERY nice, probably the most charming neighborhood in west Hollywood. I would say that the really bad parts of Hollywood are either down by Pembroke Rd or between US1 and 95, although there are tons of more working class areas with a rough edge to them, and that the only real consistencies are between 56th Ave and I-95, and again between US1 and the beach. Otherwise, it gets dicey.

Hollywood covers a very large geographical area. It encompasses all types of neighborhoods. Rich neighborhoods are mainly to the east along the water and on the beach. The downtown is becoming revitalized and has some luxury condo buildings. Downtown Hollywood is a very cool area for nightlife. Then as you go west and north of the downtown it gets very sketchy. There are just different pockets of good and bad.
