Relocating to Coral Springs, Fl
I am relocating to Coral Springs, Fl with my family, including 2 small children. I would like additional information about the area: schools, crime, activities, general feel of the area, homes, etc. Anything good to know will be appreciated. Thanks.

Crime-10th safest city in the United States in 2006, despite logging 2 homicides.
Feel- Any suburb USA. Mostly very clean and green with a couple of uglier areas along Sample Road and Coral Ridge Drive, but neighborhoods behind are nice.Has a "Family neighborhood" Feel.
Schools- Good from elementary to middle, start to sag at high (not as good as they used to be)Taravella and Coral Glades are generally considered more desirable than Coral Springs high. Elementary school districts range from top notch to below average. Do research at greatschools.net. Middle schools are good.
Homes- try about 325 for a starter 3 bedroom single family. Homes range from duplex and high rise condos to comfortable larger/older homes on large plots of land to newer tract McMansons.
Activities- TONS, check out the Coral Springs website
People- A lot nicer than surrounding towns. Ethnically and culturally diverse.
If you want better schools and can deal with an @ss hole factor, I would go with nearby Boca Raton. Coral Springs is still safer though. All around good choice. Feel free to PM me with specifics .

Thanks for the info. I'm coming from Tucson, AZ where home prices are about the same if you want a good location. It's not too bad here if you don't mind the 110 degree summer heat, desert plant pollen, dust in the valley (the city is practically surrounded by mountains) and not much to do.

Coral Spring is Good, not Great
I grew up in Coral Springs (18 years) and is a good South Florida location, just not great. I currently live in Weston and feel it is a better environment for families. While it is newer and more expensive, there is a nicer sense of community, better schools, more trees (for South Florida) and less denisty of strip malls.
I have 2 small kids and could not be happier. Besides Weston, Parkland which is just North of Coral Springs is very nice, but expensive.

I agree with this. Weston has even better schools and even less crime. Weston mostly has a planned resort feeling. Some call it "cookie cutter", others call it "very nice". Also, to a certain extent, west Davie is becoming the new Coral Springs. Great schools out there as well, and it has a little bit of a rural feeling which is kind of pleasant. Cooper City probably has the best schools. They all have top notch test scores minus the overcrowding of Weston schools.
Oh, Florida is known for its crappy schools, but they are probably excellent compare to AZ. They are one of the few states that receives less per-capita funding and has lower test scores overall than our own. Regardless, those afroementioned school districts in Weston, Cooper City, Parkland, and (to a lesser extent) Davie and Coral Springs do perform as well as anywhere.

Yeah, the humidity is going to kill you when you get here, LOL! But the air is really, really clean. It doesn't really get above 92 degrees (our record is like 95) but the humidity will make the temperature feel the same. Don't forget about those hurricanes either! Winters are gorgeous, though.
Nice perk to locating in Weston if you can-underground power grid+strong building code=no loss during hurricane. Just like a few days off from work.

I've been in Coral Springs for 7 years. It's a nice town overall but has some sketchy areas as well. I like being further north and have access to the sawgrass as we go to Deerfield Beach all the time in the evenings. My neighbors are friendly and everyone really came together during Hurricane Wilma albeit we only lost power for a couple of days.
No kids so I can't help you out on the school advice but they have a decent reputation. I like the parks as they have good basketball, tennis, and swimming facilities.
It never seems to congested here as the roads are nicely laid out with many roads either 4 or 6 lanes in both directions. There is a new downtown being built so residents can have a big "euro" style plaza in town.
Need more info, just pm me.

thought it would be great
everyone has an opinion. mine is this. city is not high class. feels like living in a slum city. people are scary looking. you will be scared to go out at night. I have heard nothing but shootings... killings everysince i have been here.
2 cops killed nearby... if you like mexico or haiti or china town, you may like it here. if you are white. you will be the minority big time... so take your chance.

Stop complaining, I live in West Palm Beach and experience much more crime here than in Coral Springs. There were two shootings that could have happend anywhere. Whites are the majority in Coral Springs, unlike here in West Palm Beach where they make up only 30% of the population. Also, just because you live with white people doesn't mean they're cultured, friendly, or nice. Someone I know has moved to Coral Springs and says the people are very rude and snobby...
A similar city I would recommend over Coral Springs is Wellington in Palm Beach County, but that's a bit far from what you want.
