Any suggestions for quick & cheap weekend trips from FLL or MIA? Passports required are okay. I am trying to google some information but the results get clogged up with all of the travel sites that have very little information.

Where do people go to from here for a long weekend?

Could be family friendly or not.

Key West. Orlando. Canaveral. Busch Gardens. Fort Myers. Just about anywhere in the Bahamas.

Well Miami would be the obvious choice, but it isn't exactly cheap. I would strongly recommend seeing Miami first and Fort Lauderdale as well. If the OP has already done those things, Key West is a good option. It is about 3-4 hours south of Miami and the drive out there is very scenic. There are lots of places to pull over and do things. An Everglades airboat ride would be a cheap thing to do but is only a 1 hour ordeal. You wouldn't stay overnight there.

If you want to go north, Disney and the Nasa center at Cape Canaveral are cool places especially for kids. If you want to go further north, there are lots of natural springs in northern FL such as Itchutucknee located near Live Oak and Lake City.
