In the City Limits or in the Metro area? In the City limits, stay away from Sistrunk, some of the neighborhoods along Sunrise Blvd, virtually anywhere between 95 and the turnpike, and a few spots around Andrews and Ave. of the Arts. The rest is mostly fine.

In the Metro, I would stay away from Lauderdale all together unless I was east of U.S.1, and also stay away from anywhere between I-95 and the Turnpike and south of Sample RD in that in between area. Basically, as a rule of thumb in Broward County/Fort Lauderdale area, East of US1 is beach/upscale, between I-95 and 1 is an urban socio-economic clash, between 95 and the turnpike is a mixture of inner city and working class neighborhoods, between turnpike and university is working class, and anything west of there is upper middle class/suburban.

So basically, you have a wide suburban area, thin strip of areas that are as bad as anywhere, a thin strip of urban clash, and a really thin and dense coastal strip running through the county.

Much of the northern part of Ft Lauderdale west of US 1 once you get over a half mile north of Sunrise Blvd is pretty nice. Outside of Boca, Palm Beach Gardens/Jupiter and Aventura/Turnberry I can't think of any other area continueously nice and safe from I-95 to the intracoastal in the tricounty area..
