I am a concern parent of a senior at Western High School and I am finding it very hard to understand the "policies' at this school of the administration...as to WHY students in their senior year are only finding out weeks before that they will not graduate on time, as they failed to complete pre-requisites credits.

My daughter's schedule was packed with un-neccesary advanced courses but yet she was not scheduled FIRST to complete her pre-requisites? WHY would the administration do this? Is this a deliberate act to delay the students from graduating? I was told once that these schools get better funding if a larger percentage of students are placed in (AP) advanced courses? Did anyone here have such experience? I welcome your suggestion. I have requested her to be taken out of one AP classes and I was told she cannot be taken out....WHY???

Yes, you are absolutely right, my son was told by the 12th Grade counselor that he needed an extra credit less than 2 months before graduation, the Guidance counselors are very relaxed, I made an appointment with her, did not even show up for the appointment, I was referred to another counselor, during his talk to us, the guidance counselor showed up. refused to see us.
Western High needs to show at least a little effort, what is it a "free"paycheck for their guidance counselors?

I think it's kind of both your faults. Meaning, the guidance department failed your son, but I also feel as if you should have known what your son's schedule was and made sure the classes he was taking was going to lead to a diploma in 4 years. ...

It's unfortunate, but FL public high schools are notorious for this type of thing. Laxed administration, sudden rule changes, teachers that don't care, a tradition of not graduating or dropping out, low parent involvement, etc.

it depends on the High School...I had a friend who was very involved and knew what was going on and the kid fell short for graduation what a nightmare and it wasn't a school in Florida either...
