Well hopefully things will work out for you, but the Post Office is "shaky" all over right now. And delivering mail in this weather is a lot different than it will be once the heat and humidity come back full force.

I would look at getting out of your lease, document what you're seeing and that the police were there for a domestic disturbance(the knife incident) and you're not comfortable living there with your children.

IDK how FL works, but in some states if it came down to small claims court you would win in regards to getting out of your lease for safety reasons.

Best of luck and Happy Holidays.

Click around. It's a fairly integrated city in all respects but the largest Anglo population tends to be towards the east, where they still dominate the neighborhoods. This is in contrast to Coral Springs which tends to be predominately Anglo with significant black and Hispanic populations in all but a few areas. In other words, Coral Springs to Pembroke Pines is probably the frying pan to the fire for the OP, as I would say that the only "desirable" area in Pines with a solid Anglo majority is Pembroke Lakes, while other Anglo dominated areas can be a little iffy.
Uh I did "click around". The site you cited showed 50% white in west and mid west areas of PP with a slightly larger, difficult to be specific on a circle graph, hispanic presence (looked to be 35-40%). Hispanic being a meaningless designation, could be white, black or asian in race, could have come from South America last year or two generations ago.

It sounds like you guys made a good move. Honestly, I don't think that the race of the people has anything to do with your dissatisfaction, reading more of your posts it just sounds like you are in a hell hole. I will live anywhere, with any type of people as long as they take pride in where they live, are kind to their neighbors and treat my family/kids well as I would like to think most would.

Is your husband working in Dade then? Are you trying to keep the kids in the same school?

As far as my husband's job...he's not a carrier. Any safety issue (accident, dog bite, questionable package, unsafe conditions) is his jo. He's based out of the Miami district plant (right next to the airport). He deals with all of south Florida from Dade county up to (I think) past Palm Beach county. His job is pretty stable right now. Even with any kind of cuts, the USPS is adding them to Miami providing more work.

I did let my landlord know of the incidents. I'm laying the ground work now so I have everything documented so he can't say that he knew nothing of these problems.

We would like to buy a home in 2012. We contemplated buying when we were in NY but am SOOO glad we didn't. I would've hated to have bought something sight unseen and then be even more screwed than where we are now.

I haven't been to the area yet but if I like Coral Springs the only part I'd want to live in would be NW. Better schools usually indicates better/safer neighborhoods.
