Default I know I'm going to get slammed for asking this but...

We just moved to Coral Springs from Long Island. We moved into a condo development sight unseen because my husband's job relocated us in a month's time. Anyway....we are an Italian family (yes white - there I said it.) I want to move out of this development because I have yet to see another white family. Where in Coral Springs should I look? I WANT diversity but I don't want to be the only ones. I know I'm going to be called a racist and that's your opinion. There are black families that would prefer to live in black neighborhoods and hispanic families that prefer to live in hispanic neighborhoods...we're just a white family that prefers to live in an area with more white folks. Please refrain from slamming me with insults. I'm just looking for information. Thank you.

I have found most of Coral Springs to be white or hispanic with small patches of predominantly black areas. It is hard to pinpoint where in Coral Springs you should move. How long is your lease?

We moved here in October and have a one year lease. We were under such time constraints and had to find a place quickly. My 66 year old aunt looked this place over and said it was great. The place itself is nice but when we walked in after getting our keys, we found all kinds of roaches. We called an exterminator but it did nothing. We've been very pro-active about taking care of it and have been successful at ridding the place of them. I know South Florida is a melting pot and I really do want diversity. I want my kids (and myself too) to love everyone around us and not base friendships (and eventually - but not yet) relationships on color or heritage.

Stay clear of moving anywhere between Sample and Wiles on Riverside Drive. You won't like that area and it's certainly not mostly whites.

Honestly, everywhere I've lived in Coral Springs there has always been a large black and hispanic population. I'm from Long Island as well and when I first moved here it kinda shocked me by how many I saw.. not that there's anything wrong with it though.

I'd just definitely suggest to stay clear from the area I mentioned.

Coral Springs is generally pretty mixed with a slight Anglo majority, especially in comparison to most areas on LI. You may just be experiencing the initial culture shock. The highest concentration of blacks is between Wiles Road and Sample Road (and not really by a long shot), otherwise it's pretty much the same throughout the city. Cooper City, western Davie, and especially Parkland and Boca Raton will probably feel more comfortable if you can't get past the initial shock, although these areas are far from all-white.

Live in a single family home. Most families don't rent condos in Florida, it's seen as something only poor families or single people would do. Even townhomes are looked down and that's why you will find more minorities there, especially recently arrived immigrants. If you can't afford a single family home then maybe it's time to move back. Florida is not as cheap as it seems, the culture is different here.
