Hollywood has nice areas east of US1 and west of I-95 til about 56th Ave (for the entire city, top to bottom). Anything between US1 and 95 is a checkerboard of good, OK, and bad, mostly OK and bad, although not so bad that you'll get carjacked on the way to 95 in your car, but maybe you'll get begged by a few bums if you stopped for gas. West of 56th Ave is the 441 corridor which is pretty nasty looking but there are worse areas.

I'm coming down to hollywood to visit this coming weekend. I want to scout out hollywood, maybe parts of north miami to find where i want to live next.

We lived in north palm beach in 2010, and we liked it. But it was a little bit slow and the snow bird aspect of it is annoying, dead for 6 months, busy for 6.

We need a place with more jobs available anyways, and we like the ft lauderdale/hollywood/north miami area.
Leaning towards hollywood more, there are more veg type restaurants around there and miami, as well as organic markets, etc.

Anyone know what the main community college is around that area? My son will be ready for that once we move down there later this year.

That would be Broward College (formerly Broward Community College), located in Davie.
