Default Finding a house for 125k

Is it possible to find a house west of 95 in a good area for this price? East of 95?

Check into insurance costs before signing. You might be in for an unpleasant surprise.

And if a townhouse then you will need to deal with associate fees and a pretty high property tax.

So in short, you will find it very difficult to find a house for that price in a "good" neighborhood.

That is what I thought but someone that lives here was trying to convince me not to buy in Port St Lucie

Honestly, when it comes to choosing where to buy, no matter how much you trust the opinion of another person, it really comes down to you. And you have to go see an area, drive and walk an area to really know, if it suits you. Buying in Port St. Lucie might be a good idea for you, buying in Broward may good too. But only you will know.
I am sure your "someone" is trying to give you guidance based on some specific factors - but the two areas could not be any more different. Lookup properties with your specific interests at realtor.com and see what comes up. Then visit the best properties you find.

Everyone I know who owns a home has been appalled by the runup of insurance costs over the past couple years.

As for OP's question, yes it is possible to find a SF home for $125,000 but (1) it will likely be in a marginal area and (2) it will probably need at least $25,000 or more worth of work to make it liveable/insurable.
