The Lakes section of Hollywood is the nicest area of town, sure, but it's just a few short blocks from US 1, a hotbed of homeless people and prostitution. The rentals near Johnson St. and US 1 are horrible but they're just a mile from the Lakes. Burglaries and thefts are getting more and more commonplace in the Lakes.
Yeah, the Hillcrest area itself is fine, I do agree; but I, personally, wouldn't wanna live that near Carver Ranches and Pembroke Park. I would recommend researching more for fellow poster ALLEDDIE to see if there's too much spillover crime or not on the CrimeMapping and the SpotCrime websites as well.

And I agree, the Hollywood Lakes area (more on that area of US-1 and neighboring) does have its fair share of problems, actually exactly as you said - but it's still one of the better areas of Hollywood definitely.

Oh, that Hospital close to Pembroke-It used to be called something else. I guess it's part of the Memorial system now. That area is still ok.

Hillcrest/Orangebrook is fine. The bad areas of Hollywood are concentrated between I-95 and a block or two east of US1, and then between 56th Ave to the end of the city limits, although these areas still aren't 100% bad. Hillcrest is in the "good" zone between 95 and 56th Ave. Hillcrest borders on some pretty bad areas to the south that actually aren't in Hollywood, but not so bad that you can't drive through, which is about the only reason you would ever been in that area. There are better locations for sure, but also a lot worse.

don't go by zip code. Instead go by school boundaries.

Here is the link --> 2014-15 High School Boundary Maps

If the place you're thinking about renting falls within the boundaries of Cypress Bay High School, West Broward High School or Cooper City High School, then go ahead and rent there.

The North West side of 33024 goes to Cooper City High School, so you may be OK.

Good luck!

I grew up in Pembroke Pines in the 33024 area code....it's a perfectly fine area.

I grew up in the neighborhood between Johnson/Pines Blvd. and Douglas/Palm.
