Hollywood - accomodation
Hello everybody
i'm moving in a month to hollywood because i'm starting a college on january. my campus is located in the eastern part of pembroke pines.. you can consider it in hollywood i think..
now i know it's a bit late but i need to find an accomodation, and i found that the rents are quite expensive.. do college communities condo exist there? or at least some cheap condo/aptm communities.. i was trying to not spend more than 650 dollars per month. am i crazy?
if this argument has already been discussed, please redirect me in the right thread!
thanks for your help

are you crazy, no. Ill informed about rental prices in south florida, yes.
Cheapest you are likely to find is 750 a month some where and it goes up from there. Heck there are apartments in the "hood" that go for 1,000 and I am talking about bottom of the barrel 1 and 2 bedrooms.
Down here is expensive man, try to find a room mate. best of luck

i'll do find a room mate as soon as i'll be there. the fact is that i'll arrive there just 5 days before the school start, so for the first months i think i'll have to live alone. then after i'll meet somebody at the college, i'll look for a multi apt for sure..
i was hoping to find a really small one-person apartment which could be affordable for me. i'm not familiar with the area at all!

Wild style said what needs to be said. I have seen people do real well location wise in Hollywood for 750, but thats is low as you are going to go.

for $650, you could probably find an 1/1 apartment , but it will probably be tacky, rundown and in a iffy neighborhood. or you could get an efficiency or cottage in the back of the main house in a pretty nice neighborhood. My friend found a nice 1/1 seperate cottage behind a beautiful 1925 old spanish in Miami Beach for $700. This is in Peachtree Drive, where houses range in the millions.

Hmm yeah 650 is a bit too low to find something in a decent neighborhood. Most apts past 75 tend to be a little more run-down, until you get closer to the beach. Maybe you can try craigslist, I'm sure they have room mate listings in the area. And also what tokay said is a good idea. Effiency rentals are big here, so you'd probably find one for around that price and might include some utilities. Good luck.

just a heads up i will tell you a story. A co worker of mine was doing bad so he was living in a efficiency in hollywood. Well, one day he wakes up and he said it was cold as hell in his apartment. So he goes to the AC and the thing is off so he is like hmmm. Goes to the door and the thing is wide open.
While he was sleeping someone broke in, stole his laptop, money, took his car keys, went into his car and took more money and left the keys in the door.
If he would have woke up while the person was in his apartment he could have been killed.
My point is, BE CAREFUL.

i got it..
i have to say all i know about that area, and in general about the united states, is what i see on google earth.. so figure out.
i'm trying to find the best solution for the first 6 months not spending too much.. the best thing will be sharing an aptm with the friends i'll meet in the college, but before that i need a place. the options are: renting a room in a private home (family or so), or renting an efficiency, 1/1 aptm.
by the way in which part of hollywood was your friend, wild? i still don't get if the difference is made by the neighborhood or by the area in general.
thanks

cuneo,
I think he was near the "circle" down there. I don't know hollywood to well so maybe someone else can shed some light on the bad areas over there.
