We are also not religious maniacs who handle snakes and try to call fire and brimstone from heaven to rain down on "Evil people"

None of that is true, southern people are just down to earth and very nice...They're always willing to have a conversation with you even if you don't know them and they are always willing to help...Plus southern food is amazing! And so is country music!

ROFLMAO......Although it's an over generalization of southern folks. You are right, plenty of decent southern folk, and as I have seen in small Georgia towns, blacks and whites getting along (more than they do in many big cities). We're talking about rural GA now. So yes, people are good and bad. No matter what culture, race, class, nationality, region..etc

Compelled to reply summed it up best, stay with the crowd you feel comfortable with, and I will add, without the state of mind of excluding decent people from all walks of life.

McDonald's down here does serve Sweat Tea and it's pretty delicious I might add. Im guessing you're white...? I don't know how comfortable you are around blacks but there are plenty of authentic soul food/southern cooking and barbeque places in the "hood". Remember, the blacks down here (besides the ones from the Carribean) are still very Southern.

Well, I grew up in Jacksonville, FL with the horses and understand well the culture of the south (for better or for worse). We moved down to Davie 18 years ago. There are still some old timers here and even areas where the kkk meets, but that is really no longer the overall culture of the community. I do have a horse and ride. Most of my trail riding takes place riding through housing developments and alongside roads with cars going 45 - 55 mph. I enjoy living in Davie and feel it has much to offer. However, if you are looking for a place like Southern Georgia or Alabama, this is not it.

I moved to Davie....there is no KKK, yet you DEFINITELY see a lot of pick up trucks with confederate flags all over them..and Davie has a couple of Country Western Bars that the rest of Broward do not. It definitely still has that old rebel spirit kind of feel to it....all the firefighters still dip with their snuff, trucks pulling airboats around, ATV's riding around recklessly once in a while. In my neighborhood, I have not seen ONE black person and there are few hispanics around.

I live near downtown Davie and run a small business. I have not seen a pick-up truck with a rebel flag in 4 years (the one I did used to see was the same one). There's a black guy that jogs down my street every evening around 6. Hispanic immigrants now live in the pocket of east Davie that used to be populated by white supremacists (east of Davie Rd, south of 595, north of Griffin, west of the turnpike). I live next door to the Brigade Chief of the fire department and his buddies come around all the time - I have NEVER once seen any of them do snuff!! lol

Presumably, my area of Davie would be the most racist since it has been settled longest. It's just not the case here anymore.
