Default Wilton Manors area/Manor Grove

I currently live in Sarasota. Mom has a condo she's had for years in Manor Grove and was thinking of moving into, possibly next fall.

I haven't lived personally in the Lauderdale area in over 16 years. What's it like now?

We just had a body found & a shooting yesterday, on the island where I used to live so I understand no place in FL is totally w/o negatives but just trying to get a feel for the area off Oakland & Andrews...

Kind of a sleazy, porno store, congested, "ugly" type of motif with moderately high crime. To quote from a certain member here (), one of those bland, tasteless kind of areas. Not the nicest part of FTL, but not the "worst". But it's closer to worse than nice. If your south of Oakland Park though, it's kind of a "gayberhood", and it's pretty nice. But it fringes on an ugly area. I don't know where Manor Grove is, but if it's near where I think it is, thats an alright area.

Fort Lauderdale basically ballooned into a major city with glitz, ghetto, and anything in between. It sunk deep through the 90s as it fell in population with more people moving on to subruban areas such as Plantation, and started on a renaissance again over the past few years.

Okay....Her condo is south of Oakland Park Blvd. on the river...so it's gayberhood...that's okay....yeah, I used to live in Sunrise Lakes after college when I first moved to FL in the mid '80's....Personally, Lauderdale to me is "Florida". I've been on the west coast since 1991 but heart is the east coast! Thanks!

Oh, that's still a nice area. Gays may have a "different lifestyle" but at the end of the day they are just like you and me, living life, and actually tend to keep their neighborhoods nice. I consider "gayberhood" to be a plus in many ways. They kept Wilton Manors alive.

Sunrise Lakes after college? Woo hoo!!!!!!!

I still think your crazy to move from Anna Maria Island to anywhere around FTL west of US1!!

And when I said "it sunk deep" I was more so referring to Fort Lauderdale proper. Broward County has been on a major upswing thats just finally beginning to end. It grew very socially and culturally diverse but social relations here seem to be second to none (no racial tension unless you are looking for it). People have come from all over, and I wouldn't call the vibe "friendly", but for the most part I haven't found this "rude people" thing to be true and I have found folks open minded and easy to talk to. I live in Weston and I like this area a lot. In Florida, for the major cities, this is my #1 choice, but the future concerns me.

Yeah, I used to live there when everything ended at Pine Island...he he he...
I've always loved Ft. Laud.....It's debaucherous but it's always been that way...over here...Bradenton proper doesn't even really look like Florida, unless you head to the island, and it's scarier to me in town than Ft. Lauderdale ever was....but then I also feel safer in NYC than I ever have in Detroit (and I'm from motown). go figure?
