[quote=compelled to reply;2806040]To answer your original question but apply it to Davie, the big traffic spot in Davie is University Drive, although it doesn't really get too bad. I-595 can get stop and go at peak times, but typical cursing speed is around 70 mph. A lot of the other roads tend to be light in traffic. For schools, private depends on the age of your kids, but for public you are going to want to stay in the "Western innovation zone", or head also into the Cooper City area which is south of Davie. For a gym, we have tons of options, Fitness 21, 24 Hour Fitness in Plantation, and quite a few others. Nightlife in Fort Lauderdale is excellent, is starting to emerge in Hollywood, and Miami Beach is about 30-40 minutes away and needs no explanation. The area around the Hollywood Medical Center is alright, but not that great. It's also not far from some of the worst neighborhoods in the county. Also, the "Ghetto" subculture has kind of taken over the whole country as of late. I don't know a densely populated place that doesn't have it.quote]
I have had some offers in to work in Orange Park and Pensacola, but Davie sounds like a great place to check out. I have only visited Miami and never stayed in Hollywood, so I figured Hollywood might have more to offer than a job, but appears to be another place to drop off New Yorkers. Anyhow looks like HW will be crossed off my list as a place to live, but not necessarily to work. Like I said before I did live in Pine Hills for a while, but never been to south Florida except for the Miami visit (which isn't a true evaluation of judging a place). Anyway thanks again![]() Joe |

I can't say I've really had too many problems here, but there is always an undercurrent of unease in my neighborhood, which is in an OK area, but just east of Federal Highway. Two blocks further East is pretty nice. I'm not sure of the school quality. Rents are pretty high for units which are not in the best repair. As another poster noted, it is becoming quite crowded. However, if you have the wherewithal to afford the nicer areas, it is pretty nice. Hollywood has the best beach, as the restaurants and pubs are right on the beach, unlike Miami and Ft. Laud. It's especially nice at night. We also have what I think is the best restaurant in all of S. Fl-Sushi Blues. Check it out if you come here . Dania to the slight North has some decent areas, and less crap going on on their section of Federal Highway, It seems. I'm told one of the problems with Hollywood and it's street population is the deals the City made with numerous Methadone clinics. Apparently, they have clauses to stay in business for many more years. I don't know if it's true, but having a methadone clinic right down the street is a real turn off to many. I don't know why, but I'm drawn to this place and it's problems. I can't bear the thought of leaving Hollywood, even if it is for the better. It has major flaws, but there is something almost magical about this place to me. Last edited by Nina1970; 02-16-2008 at 02:58 PM.. |
