If you don't mind a HUGE gay population, and a lot of people passing through (resort area), than there is nothing wrong with that area. No, it's not posh and ritzy like Sea Ranch Lakes but theres nothing wrong with that area at all.

Off to work I go!

I live a few miles inland from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and still recommend it (although the town's character is changing a bit because of increased development). The beach area is less frenetic than Fort Lauderdale's and cleaner than Pompano Beach's. Interestingly, your reliance on your car might be a little lower in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea than it would be in many other areas of South Florida -- restaurants, shops and a grocery story are within walking distance.

That was a few of my first impressions that I had as well, its nice to hear you reinforcing that for me. My family and I grew up in Michigan we are in Coral Springs right now, but want to be closer to the beach and it seemed like a good fit. And we don't have alot of first hand knowledge about all the cities that s why this site it great! So we shall see...
