Anything close to or on the beach will rake you through the coals. The closer you get to the ocean, the more expensive it gets.

I know several people who live either right on the beach or very close to it. None of them are wealthy and they all work "regular" jobs. It's certainly doable. About 6 or 7 years ago, we had a 2 story penthouse right on the ocean for $1200. It's obviously gone up since then, but there are plenty of opportunities, especially for a single person who doesn't need a large place, right on the water. Be it the intercoastal/near the beach or right on the beach.

Here is a 1/1 right off Ft Lauderdale beach, with pool, for $1100:
625 Antioch Ave APT 309, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304 | Zillow

Another 1/1 right in Harbor Beach for $1300
2426 SE 17th St APT A205, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316 | Zillow

Or a small place right off the beach for $900:
3217 NE 11th St APT 10, Pompano Beach, FL 33062 | Zillow

Or this one right on the beach for $1250:
405 N Ocean Blvd APT 1025, Pompano Beach, FL 33062 | Zillow

Large apartment on intercoastal for $1300:
1000 Parkview Dr APT 511, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009 | Zillow

Studio ON the beach with view for $1300:
2501 S Ocean Dr APT 506, Hollywood, FL 33019 | Zillow

And it just goes on and on. I'd hardly call this "getting raked through the coals" - it's more than affordable to be on the beach.

Agree!

In recently helping a friend looking for a rental... I'd say $1500/month min. will get you something decent.
Nothing "spectacular" ...but decent.

Thanks! I will keep looking, a couple of those look pretty decent!

Totally! There is a ton of inventory near or right on the water. And it's nowhere near as expensive as many think.
