I was planning to visit Miami during Memorial wkd for a family vacation but I was informed it's not a great spot for families during this time.
So I'm looking into Ft Lauderdale. I'd like to be near to the beach, of course a safe and clean area. Any suggestions? Budget is $100 to $200 a night.

Any night time activities like boardwalks, outdoor malls or family oriented places?

If you want a beach with a boardwalk, look at Hollywood Beach (lots of small inns and hotels there).

Or Lauderdale-by-the-Sea has a very nice beach front.

Fort Lauderdale beach is also very nice, but you have to cross A1A to get from the sand to the shops and restaurants.

Is it a lot calmer than Miami during this time?

Don't leave them with the impression that A1A is a multi lane superhighway.

Of course not. But a boardwalk it is not.

Nonetheless, there are wide sidewalks on both sides of A1A, and there are shops and restaurants.

Take a stroll:

Pompano Beach beach is also pretty pleasant. Although not much in terms of shops and restaurants.

Is Downtown Riverwalk and Las Olas Boulevard like a strolling at night place?

Las Olas for sure, it is quite busy and lots of nice shops and restaurants.

Riverwalk - there isn't much there anymore.
