Has anyone noticed that "Single woman mid 30's considering to move to Fort Lauderdale" ?

The two OPs should meet!

I was just reading that thread. So funny. I'm at least 9-10 months out though.

It can be challenging making friends down here.
Since you already have something in common... you should consider keeping in touch.

Here's a question.

I looked at the City Data neighborhood info and just about every neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale shows 52%+ being males. Is this because there's a large gay population in Fort Lauderdale or are there just more females then males?

Before anyone gets any ideas, I really don't care if you're gay or straight. I work in an industry that's very diverse and actually out of the 5 people I know in Fort Lauderdale, 3 are gay. It's specifically for info on my "competition" per se.

Ok I just spent 5 days in Fort Lauderdale and don't think this is the city for me. The beach areas are nice but heavily populated by retirees and the price of real estate keeps many younger people away. Also, there's too many areas that have huge pockets of run down areas. No matter where you go, you're just a few blocks away from a small ghetto. I'm talking about the area east of 95 btw.

Thank you all for the info. Time to consider other cities.

Cool. No other cities have little ghettos in the more urban areas, so I think you'll have a lot more luck looking elsewhere. I heard Baltimore is quite nice.

I'm sure there's plenty of other cities that are similar to Fort Lauderdale from that perspective. It doesn't mean there are cities that do a better job of maintaining large nice areas away from the crime infested areas. Denver and Charlotte are just 2 that come to mind. If they were within an hour from the beach I'd be set.
