The drive down to the Keys is far more scenic. I second The Bubble Room at Sanibel.

When I was single I rented a Mustang convertible and took a vacation down to Key West. Lots of touristy things to do--toured the Truman compound, the Hemmingway House and ate at lots of great restaurants and had drinks at Papa Joe's. Enjoyed the gorgeous sunset and the celebration by the locals.

I like both places--Sanibel & the keys. Beaches are actually nicer in both places than FTL, IMO.

Drive to Key West.. Stop at Islamorada's Theater of the Seas. Once in KW, do a Jet Ski tour around the island.

I would skip the Everglades in July. The mosquitoes are Jurassic. No lie.

Check Groupon for a 2 for 1 water taxi coupon. Otherwise it is expensive. Something like $28 per person and you should definitely stay on it at night, the homes are beautiful lit up with the reflection on the water. Also great fun to bar hop on the water taxi.

Hard Rock is fun if you like to gamble. Or catch a show.

Check the Broward Center Calendar. See who or what is in town.

Skip Sanibel. You'll be disappointed.

Do the Keys instead.
