the hardcore ghettos are in and around fort lauderdale, kinda surrounding downtown. an area called sistrunk off broward blvd is a crack den area. stay away from areas that stradle I-95, usually ghetto. around lauderdale beach u can find old, sketchy apts or down by lauderdale by the sea there are more options which is a kinda cool beach area just north of lauderdale beach. deerfield further north is a decent beach area but borders palm beach county. just always be careful wherever u go and trust nobody, especially if u r a girl. very shady, sketchy people all over, especially attached to the party scene. good luck, be smart!

from Oakland Park, parts of Dania Beach; west of I95 Hollywood, anything near the airport, Pompano/ nr Dixie Hwy.

There are sections of Hollywood that are nice- near the water.

this is a fair assessment...your price range is to low for what you want though

JPSchaff you can def find a one bedroom for 900 and less. Im looking in the same areas now and I have found plenty of apartment complexes in the 625-900 range. I will be going in two weeks to decide on a place, I'll let you know details on places I visit when Im down there. Good luck!

anything under 900 in ft lauderdale will be serious hardcore ghetto, have rats and crazy bugs. u have to go way outside lauderdale to get something liveable for say 800 and not sure thats even possible anymore. i had a place for 840 on the intracoastal and we had major rats and cockroachs everywhere. anyplace near water has a rat infestation unless the place is seriously protected by exterminator. i live way outside lauderdale now in cocnut creek and the current rent on 1bdrm start at 1100 plus all your bills
