Exclamation Relocating to Ft. Lauderdale, have some questions

My husband, son and I are relocating to Ft. Lauderdale from Columbia, MD within the next few months. I've worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant for over 10 years and my husband has worked in the Warehouse field (now a Warehouse Manager) for over 15 years. How is the job market for these two positions in Ft. Lauderdale? Also, what is the best part of Ft. Lauderdale to live, low crime rate, reasonable rentals? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I will forward my reply, just one second

Those two fields are fairly strong down here, especially the warehouse management field which is still growing fast down here. As far as where is the best to live depends on where you work, what you want out of a location, and what "Reasonable" is to you. I also suggest posting this in a different thread as opposed to hijacking this thread.

Generally speaking, the low crime areas are west of University Dr or east of US1. In the former, some of them rank among the safest in the country.

Do you think it would be easier for us to find work from MD or do you think we are going to have to move before we find work?

dwatts, do you have a friends address you can use down here? If not maybe come down here and rent a P.O. Box and use that as your home address so employers think you are local. Just be willing to fly down for a interview when the call comes.

You and your husband should be able to find jobs but before you move it would be great to have jobs lined up so that you know what your income will be. Jobs do not pay the same around here as they do in MD.

There are many nice places to live in Broward. Before you can decide where to live you should have an idea of where your jobs will be.

In my personal opinion, nice Broward areas are: North Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Parkland, and Weston.

Thanks to all. We are going to ask one of my husband's relatives if we could use her address. Hopefully she will not mind.

We must have applied for over 30 positions between the both of us, and still applying everyday, wish us luck on getting replies and employers willing to give telephone interviews or working with us to come to town for the interview...I know that if we were already down there we would be able to find work. But we cannot afford to do that...I am getting a little frustrated please excuse me....:O)
We will not give up! LOL

Default either way

you can go to South Florida Sun-Sentinel: Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade news, sports, jobs, cars and real estate -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com and look in the classifieds.
Also many people live in Ft. Lauderdale and work in Miami so also check miamiherald.com classifieds for jobs.

I think in this area you can either stay up in Md and find a job here or come down and find a job. Might be easier for you than your husband but you should both find a job sucessfully.

Not sure what you can afford housing wise but schools in Weston and Coral Springs (too far to go to miami) are probably better than any of the broward county schools.

Florida on the whole does not rank high in the way of elementary and middle schools but we have an excellent university system!

Weston is not to far from Miami to commute. Lots of folks here work in Miami. Coral Springs is probably to far though.
