"Hours earlier, in the same neighborhood, a man walking down Johnson Street was confronted by two gunmen. The man escaped their clutches by running away and flagging down a pickup truck and jumping in.

The gunmen fired multiple times at the pickup.

It was not immediately known if that incident and the carjacking might have been connected."

It's too bad one of the cars got away but the guy they caught will probably rat out his accomplace (in esxchange for a lighter sentence, no doubt).
It seems like the last couple of lines could be its own story if they learn more. Two guys firing shots at a man for no apparent reason is as disturbing as a carjacking. I'm glad he made it awat safely.

North Hills Drive? That isn't the "Hollyhood" section of Hollywood, that's an established upper middle class area. What HAS been happening around there is that the area is getting "discovered" by thugs 10 miles south in Miami Gardens and they are targeting Emerald Hills and Hollywood Hills because they are both reputably "nice" neighborhoods with a lot of money in some spots. There has also been a burglary spree over there. I mean go check out that area on google maps using the satellite imagery and look at the houses. That's not a low scale neighborhood. Now Hollywood PD needs to stop taking SOME of those patrols off of Young's Circle (which is safe now) and circle that side of town. It's a lot closer for thugs than the pervasive University Drive line. But right now the more working class parts of Hollywood are probably safer than Emerald Hills, but with enough police action I'm sure that area could become "Safe" again.

agreed ! The same thing has been happening to Miramar for god knows how many years...they come in from Carol City and do their crime and book on down back to the hood. We need more cops..plain and simple. But with ammendment 1 passing......looks like that is more of a dream.

I agree. For that reason I can never really recommend Miramar east of 75. Some of the smaller counties are going to REALLY escalate in crime, like St. Lucie County which I heard is laying off at least 100 officers...even if we don't lose any cops, the economy is going to keep on getting worse, and that leads people actually commit these crimes to the point where it becomes truly widespread, not just something you read about...look at what happened to Orlando. It's not to the point where I walk around in fear yet, but I can sense it getting closer and closer to that point...

Wow, I just did a search for "carjacking". Where do we go to escape? I guess we just can't live in fear...

Why don't you ask on the Miami board? I think you have contributed your fair share of Miami crime posts on this one. I'm seriously starting to wonder if you sell security systems or something.
