This loophole needs to be closed. Also banning the purchase of assault style weapons to any civilian below age 21 who has no military training should also be considered.

And this is a good example of what happens, when society, schools, friends, parents, and families turn their head away from reality. Let's deal with the perpetrator, who is also a victim here, of such, starting with Parkland, Florida: Population: 31,507, as of 2016, median income per household: $277,072, median house price, $973,176, obviously, he is not a poor-young- boy from a destitute family from the ghetto. But, he is poor nonetheless by the loss of his ORIGINAL parents, first. And this is a crucial loss for any child. But, the loss of his ORIGINAL parents, may have been the critical point for a child with a GENETIC disease, such as Mental Illness, onset later in his life.

ADOPTED: Adopted parents died, taking in by family members, in his early teens, history of Mental Illness, most likely untreated, or treated too late, problems with the authorities at school, myriad of telephone calls to the Police, who often came to the home. Problems with neighbors, etc.

Many adopted children begin to overreact, when they become teens, due to the loss of identity, they have perceived as being adopted, and begin to search for their Original Parents. We really do not know, what has happened here, and even if he knew that he was adopted. When he began to decompensate, and the illness was not temporarily halted, via medications, hospitalization, and therapy, it was the beginning of the end. When he began to hallucinate, it was a clear indication of the onset of Schizophrenia, or an affective disorder, which onset is in the early teens, unless he did not have a previous issue with Mental Illness, and was taking illegal drugs. Illegal drugs will cause hallucinations on a person that has never shown Mental Illness, temporarily, unless he takes them again.

We will never know, what was the precipitating factor. Mental Illness must be taken seriously, at the first sign.

My prayers are with all the families.
Being that he was adopted it wouldn't have been clear what genetic disorder he might have inherited or not. I read that his biological brother who is just under 18 was taken to be evaluated after this tragic event.

Also I am wondering why his aunt didn't step up to the plate to help with her nephews after their mother died last November.

Timothy McVeigh used fertilizer to commit his horrific act, if a person cannot get a gun then they might make bombs, hatred and mental illness needs to be addressed.

As to no mass shootings in Canada, think again and they have tough gun laws, crazy people are everywhere, look at all the attacks worldwide.

List of massacres in Canada
With that thought maybe we should all go out and buy a tank and park in the driveway you know just in case. And you are correct mental illness needs to be addressed. Oh wait.....lets cut and throw out the ACA first that addresses those issues more and lets just pass this bill that people with mental illness and on the no fly list can buy arms easier.

Lets remember that after the OKC bombing the government wisely put regulations on the sales of ammonium nitrate. I guess the fertilizer industry was not as big as the NRA.

I guess you do not know how close to the truth you are hitting, why do you think police in many areas are allowed to have take home cars, so they will be parked in neighborhoods and police departments often park police cars in parking lots during the holidays to give crooks the idea that lots of police are around, display often stops crimes before they start.

As for the rest of your post, it is a bunch of hyperbole bs and politics, tell it to your politician, this thread has nothing at all to do with politics, we had the ACA during a lot of these shootings, what good did it do.

This thread has everything to do with politics. If you don't believe me ask all the people who are attending funerals today.

As long as the NRA funds all the politicians, there won’t be any change.
If we put a cap on campaign funding, we’d have a much better country all around.

It’s incredible how many people are naive as to the power of the NRA’s “donations” aka bribes

I guess some of you hate the NRA, it has nothing to do with this shooting or any other, you also want to do away with the NRA money, well then how about doing away with the anti NRA money funded by George Soros, the U.S. is a free country, if some of you do not like it that way then I suggest you go visit other countries to appreciate how great it is in the U.S., it is called freedom and rights, we have them, you apparently want some of them taken away.

Making this about politics or guns is ridiculous, it is about insanity and a failure of law enforcement to stop these people before they commit their horrific acts, FBI Was Warned About Nikolas Cruz One Month Ago and Did Nothing, if you want to blame someone then blame the FBI, this would have never happened if they did their job.

And you really think that if the FBI went and interviewed him that would have ended everything. The local authorities visited him over 30 times in the past few years. Part of our freedom and rights you spout include freedom of speech. You do realize how difficult it would have been to "lock him up" . Blame everyone and everything you want but it comes down to he legally had the right to purchase a weapon of mass destruction.

The system failed, it has nothing to do with guns, getting the laws changed on who needs help would go a long way to stopping these types of things, the NRA would not be against those changes being made. If the police visited him 30 times, then they could have baker acted him if they felt he was a danger, once in the system he may never have been allowed to own guns, in fact it looks like he never should have been allowed to own guns, which again is a failure of the system, taking guns from law abiding citizens is not the answer, fixing the broken system is, many of these shooters could have been stopped if doctors were allowed to report their findings to the govt, actually it should be mandatory.

Lynda Cruz, his adoptive mother who died from pneumonia in November 2017, told mental health investigators in 2016 that her son suffered from ADHD, depression and autism but insisted he received his necessary medication as prescribed, according to the report.

Lynda Cruz told investigators that her son had started to cut himself after a breakup, the report said. She also “stated that there has never been any issues with other races or issues with racism in her family."
