I would not rent around Nova. Davie is not that great of an area. It has some good spots and some really bad spots. I know some friends that went to Nova for grad school (Law and Medical) and I was over some of those apartments . They were kind of dumpy. It almost had a college party feel though. If you are into that then I say, go for it. I prefer to stay in an area that is close enough to the action to appreciate it but far enough that you get peace and quiet.

As I have mentioned before on other posts, I would look into Plantation, Sunrise, and Weston. The friend that went to med school at Nova stayed in Weston and cooled his head playing Golf every now and then. Great parks, restaurants, golf, nice apartments and townhouses for rent. Nova and the general "college" area around University is only 10-15 minutes away.

I know the complex you are speaking of. There is another one that is also full of rowdy college kids, but the villa/townhome complexes in the area are all very quiet and cost a little less than an equivalent in Plantation. Are you going to stereotype ALL of Davie over THAT particular complex and say that SUNRISE and PLANTATION have no bad spots? Check out the general vicinity around Plantation Middle/High. Granted, the EAST side of Davie Rd has some very nasty trailer parks, but Davie as a whole isn't any lesser of an area than Plantation or Sunrise. Weston is a "better" place to rent but the stop and go traffic on 595 isn't too much fun, although one could shoot up Griffin in a flash ever since they timed the lights right...
