It's really a toxic brew. There were times when the economy was much much worse here but never a time when the economy was taking a decent hit (thus far there were much worse times in the 90s and after 9-11), yet things are obscenely overpriced compared to those times.

what was the unemployment here after 9/11 and what is it now?

I think it was worse after 9/11 too but I don't have the numbers.

It was above 6% back then. Really bad. Now it's in the high 3% range which is actually very good, but up from sub 2% where we were before. That + the now unnaturally high cost of living= increase in homelessness. If the costs don't start going down really soon, as they should naturally, this place is in BIG trouble.

food prices aren't going to go down, neither is gas. Rent wont go down either because of insurance cost and taxes on land owners. This place is a powder keg

I looked it up

2001 the unemployment rate was 4.2/5% just after 9/11. Didn't jump up to 6% until 2002. We are just starting out in this economic slow down and just like after 9/11 we are at 4%. Difference is we are in a far worse economic situation than it ever was after 911. This is going to be a horrible year and a horrible ride.

While accurate, where do we go to escape, the first two are everywhere, and most other cities have some other serpent...is the whole country a disaster waiting to happen?
