Moving to Sunrise
I'm just wondering what it's like in Sunrise and the surrounding areas. I'm 24 and going to be moving there in late May from St. Louis, MO for a job. So I'm wondering where would be a fun, but safe place to rent an apartment or condo.
Thanks for your help!

Calling anywhere in Sunrise "fun" is dubious but you should have no problem finding something safe west of Nob Hill Rd and it also costs a little less than other areas. Just try to avoid condo conversion complexes. If you want to do an apartment complex, look into Plantation as there are a lot of complexes there that are actually decent (rare in this area).

compelled, im POSITIVE that you dont have to go as far out west as nob hill to find a decent place in sunrise.. surely anything west of university is decent. personally, my favorite neighborhoods in sunrise would be welleby (think around oakland park blvd and nob hill/pine island road) or sawgrass (they have plenty of affordable apartments around 136th street, which is between flamingo and weston road... the east side of weston road is actually considered sunrise, therefore you should check out 84 south (think markam park)

Just about anywhere in Sunrise is going to be safe. As mentioned, there's a huge outlet mall and the area just a bit away. Also, Sunrise does a *ton* of free community events (concerts, socials, etc) so you can get involved that way too.
Oh...and if you're looking to buy a cute little 1/1 villa...I know one for sale!

You really just need to be west of university. It might be more expensive out by the Weston/Sunrise/Bonaventure area. It all depends on your price range. Where will you be working?

stay as far west as possible. Too much crime out east. I'd lean towards some of the apartment complexes near Sawgrass Mills Mall. For someone to say that anywhere in Sunrise is safe isn't really aware of their surroundings.

I live in W. Sunrise with my husband and our two young children. We enjoy this area due to being in close proximity to the Sawgrass Mills Mall, Panther Stadium, and "family friendly" atomosphere. There are always a lot of free things going on, nice parks, The City of Sunrise community pool, etc, etc.
We are also a stone's throw away from the Sawgrass Express Pkwy (I75 & 595). Heading north on the Sawgrass, you can access Tamarac, Coral Springs, Parkland, and then Boca. Heading South, you can access Weston, Pembroke Pines and eventually down to Miami.
But in terms of Sunrise being "fun" for a single person, I wouldn't exactly call it that. I would say a place more geared for the single life would be Ft. Lauderdale (A1A/Beachplace) or Las Olas/Riverfront areas. Of course MIAMI would be the best of all!

As others have said, Sunrise is pretty decent. Someone said a lot of free stuff to do, I don't know about that one but your close to the mall and highways. Rent isn't the cheapest in the world but its not as much as some other areas are. You won't have to worry about muggings and stuff. I live in Sunrise now and I can't complain to much. I do plan to move soon though, only because I am trying to cut my expenses. I can live in a area that is closer to work and to highways and stuff for FAR less than what I am paying now. Well not far less but less indeed.
