I'm fairly new to the area to (10 months) coming from Upstate NY and I continue to be shocked at the rudeness of people here and they just don't care! I get so angry, but I'm slowly learning that it doesn't help. I'll just run into someone else with the same attitude and I'll be angry all the time.
But, I must say other than the attitude's I do like living here.

I know it's hard when it seems like everyone is from somewhere else but try to find something you enjoy, volunteer your time and you will find the people that are nicer and have a firm foundation behind them. I have a 23 year old daughter and I find some of her habits annoying and I have called her on it. I was taught differently; if I am with someone, I don't interrupt my conversation to have a phone conversation (not serious) with someone else. I grew up here since middle school and I would say people are about the same. I had girls in middle school be incredibly mean to me.
It wasn't until I started focusing on others that I forget about poor me, started enjoying people for who they were, volunteered my time and found out that some of my preconceived perceptions were not correct.
There are some wonderful organizations in Fort Lauderdale and other parts of Broward County that could use your help. There you will meet some amazing people.

I think paradise was lost when you became a minority in a city you grew up with. Seems like the majority of the people that moved to that area didn't like their new surroundings.

Did you move from a small area to here? What do you expect when you move to a very densly populated area? This isn't Mayberry you know? Haven't you been to NYC, Chicago, or DC?

I agree this is not "all over America".
Welcome to South Florida! It is a "one giant happy hour" and spring break all year round!

reading all the posts, and having grown up down there myself in my younger days, and visiting a time or two per yr, i really do think that people are more rude there than most places. crime is also an issue... so when people say "crime is everywhere" or "rude people are everywhere" this is true... but not AS rude as south fla (overall). there are a few exceptions though obviously.

compelled, it is still a lot easier to get away from crime if you live outside of charlotte, unlike many areas of ft lauderdale. charlotte has a lot of nice, safe, smaller towns with nice people. try living in orlando, and trying to get away from the rude people, the constant espanol, the break-ins

I was in south Florida a couple of years ago for five months in the Ft. Lauderdale area. The people are rude and unfriendly, didn't make a single friend, but I had a couple of friends there before I went down. I like people and talk to everyone. Ft. Lauderdale is a great place to visit but I couldn't live there for so many reasons. I live in Atlanta and the people are great, sweet and friendly, and I feel very safe. Atlanta has so much to offer. Good quality of life in Atlanta. A lof of people move to Atlanta from Florida.

Yes , all people in Atlanta are sweet and friendly .. right ... don't forget to mention the very , very high crime rate , mind boggling traffic on the GA 400 and everywhere else for that matter , poor air quality , terrible schools
( worse than Florida ) and did I mention racial tensions between blacks and whites ?
I am so glad you feel safe ... I do not share your blind optimism about Atlanta ... you can have it .
