"I have friends and cousins living in Atlanta. I have been a few times. It is very segregated over there. BUT the people were extremely nice. I was shocked to see how openly people would speak to you. I remember being in a shop and some guy said something to me, so I turned around to see who he was talking too. He said I am talking to you boss. I apologized and said I live in S. Florida, I am not used to people speaking to me out of the blue like that. He laughed and then we had a nice convo after that. That is just one example but EVERYONE I came across up there was just really nice. So its not bad at all, just extremely segregated."
i'd take the segregation, if there really is even any more there than south fla. altelast the people are friendly. compelled, i know south fla and charlotte areas, and i dont have to look at on-line stats to compare what is safer, ft lauderdale and its surroudings or huntersville and those areas. didnt you see the poll on the CLT forum? it was overwhelming. almost everyone said its safer there. no real reason to argue about it, you think what you think and you combat everyones' opinions on the crime issue, which is fine, but some people, such as myself, has done more than just visited huntersville. you can go a few miles outside of CLT and find some nice, safe communities... a lot. i lived in nc for yrs, met a ton of ppl from florida, esp. s fla, and hardly anyone would move back to s fla. but your telling me i should go with the stats on the net? |

Just because a lot of people have their heads in the air doesn't make them correct. I will leave it at that. Everything else is opinion, but fact remains true, and that is according to the state of Florida, state of North Carolina, and all corresponding law enforcement agencies, not just some random site off of the internet.

"thank you " will suffice ... I find that the fake "nice" that you see in Atlanta and Charlotte can be "creepy " at times ... and a fake nice it can be trust me .. I have family there and visit frequently . I just got back from a few hours on Las Olas Blvd with the family , we had a nice time and people were no friendlier or ruder than anywhere else and that includes Alpharetta , or John's Creek near Atlanta ... I wish the constant naysayers would just go away as we have enough problems down here already . |

"I do not need everyone smiling at me all day and saying "Hi ya'll doing ""
canefan, wow. i guess you dont really know a lot of the people up there too well then. people up there, not all obviously, but many of them are really that kind, and would help anyone out at any time... VERY unlike south fla. just because you find it creepy or weird, doesnt mean it isnt genuine. people up there would pull over in a second to help change a tire or whatever. that is not uncommon at all. s fla doesnt even begin to compare (in general, obviously there are exceptions) to cities and surrouding areas like CLT and ATL when it comes to the people. |

MisterNY, just wondering, from your perspective, what are some benefits you see to living in Atlanta versus here, other than the obvious like lower cost of living, better job market and (yes) friendlier people? I promise I won't bite
! I am just wondering because that place broke my heart after trying it on before buying. I liked the Texas boom cities like Houston and Austin much better. |

compelled, i lived in a decent sized city in nc for yrs. never had a problem, or had neighbors who complained. here in orlando, i live in a nicer, much more expensive place, and i feel it is less safe here in orlando. i have had neighbors get cars broken into, i had a neighbor tell me a hispanic man followed her all the way into our subdivision from colonial, i saw a man getting pulled over for doing 72 mph in a 25 mph zone down the street. i never saw this in nc where i lived, and like i said, i live in a nice area of orlando. much nicer (cosmetically) than in nc, but man oh man, it aint the same, trust me man.

I like it down here and I realize others do not , South Florida , Atlanta and Charlotte have their positives and negatives ... my issue is with people grossly embellishing both the positives of Atlanta , Charlotte and the negatives of South Florida . Again people that do not like it down here have the right to leave and should do so and soon .. make yourselves happy and us that do like it here as well . Thank You ![]() |
