Help looking for safe apartments for newbies!
I am a recent college grad and accepted a job in Plantation Fl...moving there from out of state. I am looking for an apartment, preferably one that has security or is gated, as I am female and living alone. Would like one with a good reputation, yet I cannot find any sites that have any positive feedback . I have family in Pembroke Pines, but would rather not travel 595 to work everyday. Help! Please advise of safe apartments in the 1000-1200 studio or 1 bedroom range! Names of some complexes to look at would help! If not Plantation, then where? Names of actual places to go visit would be great! Thankyou!

You may want to check out Colonnades - Colonnade Sawgrass (broken link)
I checked back in January and they had some specials on 1BR units that ended up being close to $950-1000/month.

Colonnades is a very nice place. It's very quiet and has a guard gate that actually works all the time! Definetly look into this area if you can.

I think most of the "Jacaranda" places are nice and gated, they technically may be in Sunrise. St. Tropez at Plantation is gated. The Palms in Davie is gated and may be close to where you want. I'm also pretty sure Palm Trace Landings in Davie is gated, but that may be further than you want to travel? There are also some nice places on University Dr., south of Sunrise Blvd. and north of Broward Blvd. I don't think any are gated, but I've had friends who live there (including a single woman) and have never had a problem.

NO to The Palms and Palm Trace Landings! Yes to St. Tropez. Carefully investigate anything with "Jacaranda" in it. There are so many (and they are all well within Plantation) of varying quality levels, some are very nice, some have looks that are deceiving. Yes to Colonnade (which is condo conversion but they seem to run a tight ship there). Even if you live west of your office you still don't have to travel 595. Broward Blvd is usually pretty clear, as is Cleary Blvd. Sunrise Blvd is kind of iffy because they currently widening the road, although when it's done it should be great.

Colonnade
Do they have rentals at the Colonnade? It looked to me when I went to their website that you have to buy?
Also, what are the names of the better Jacaranda places and what are the bad ones? It is so confusing to tell
thanks for all the input

What's wrong with these? I've known several people who have lived in Palm Trace Landings and they never complained of any problems.

I am mainly speaking for The Palms although seemingly every week Palm Trace Landings showing up in the Miami Herald police report for some kind of vandalism or burglary. They also sometimes have robberies in the stores at that shopping center at 84 and Hiatus and half the time they live right there in The Palms. I went there one time to look at the places in The Palms and there was some guy trying to sell me some Dolce and Gabanna shades by their pool. Nice. And the apartments themselves are not very good. I would say that the mobile home parks surrounding The Palms are arguably much nicer and quieter.
